Roswell rules in Slovakia

NATIONAL 100 metres hurdles champion Demisha Roswell maintained her impressive form this season with a win in the event at yesterday’s World Continental Tour Silver meet in Slovakia.

Roswell clocked 12.54 seconds to make it back-to-back victories following her success a week ago at the Luzern meet in Switzerland. The Jamaican sprint hurdler turned back the challenge of her former Vere Technical teammate Britany Anderson, who is making a comeback after missing the past two seasons. Anderson finished second in 12.73, while Luca Kozák of Hungary was third in 12.76.

There were also second-place finishes for two-time Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah, Lavanya Williams and Ackeem Blake.

Thompson-Herah crossed the line in 11.06 seconds for the runner-up spot in the 100m. Torrie Lewis of Australia won in a national record 11.04, with former Jamaica representative Christania Williams, now representing Austria, finishing third in a national record 11.06.

Lavanya Williams took second in the women’s 200m in 23.13 as Lewis completed the sprint double by winning in 22.66. Buglárka Takács of Hungary placed third in 23.18.

Blake finished second in the men’s 100m in 10.04. Bayanda Walaza of South Africa, the 2024 World Under-20 100m champion, sped to victory in a meet record 9.89, while Andre De Grasse of Canada was third in 10.05.

Competing in his third race of the season, Tyler Mason, the World Championships bronze medallist in the men’s 110m hurdles, finished third in the event in 13.47 seconds. Enzo Diessl of Austria won in a season’s best 13.25.

Long jumper Nikolai Williams produced the best result for Jamaica in the field events. Williams placed third in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.98m. In the women’s long jump, Ackelia Smith was fourth with 6.48m, while Nia Robinson finished sixth with 6.07m.
