Aidonia locked in for Yard Mas J’ouvert staging
Dancehall artiste Aidonia is one of two headliners for Yard Mas Carnival's upcoming J'ouvert experience on Saturday.
The event forms part of Yard Mas Carnival's expanding j'ouvert offering, which returns for its second staging this year. According to Andrew Bellamy, managing director of Yard Mas Carnival, the decision to book the Hot Tool artiste was a "no-brainer".
"Carnival in Jamaica is exactly that -- 'Carnival as a Yardie'! We saw it fit to fuse what makes Jamaica so unique with soca, and that's dancehall," Bellamy told THE STAR. For a night of fete, paint and powder -- all synonymous with soca -- it was also important to include a soca act, and this year's pick is Trinidad-born Christo Music, who is known for his 2026 hit Doux Doux Darlin. Bellamy said the two headliners were an "easy mesh" noting that both acts, across their respective genres, are known for their "endless" hits that cater to women and the waistline.
When asked how he feels the two acts will shape Yard Mas' second j'ouvert staging, Bellamy said, "It will be the most authentic Carnival in Jamaica j'ouvert experience to date! Beyond just our artiste selection, the Yard Mas J'ouvert is a blend between companies from Trinidad (Out Of Office) and New York (THC) and Yard Mas Carnival. This fusion and experience will be unmatched."
The band hosted its first j'ouvert last year as part of its 2025 lineup of activities and has continued the offering into 2026. Since the announcement of Aidonia as a headliner, organisers say anticipation has been building among revellers locally and across the diaspora.
Aidonia's appearance comes just days after he celebrated his 45th birthday in St Ann, where he hosted his annual birthday bash.
